This Friday expect to see Banks’ second album The Altar dropping. The new album is coming through Harvest Records. Banks has been growing as an artist and as a person, so she says her new music reflects the changes and experiences she has been through in the last two years. The 13 tracks in the upcoming album are all part of her evolution on her path of self-discovery. Her unique music blends Alternative with R&B, pop, synth and hip hop. The album will examine her relationships with people and herself. The new single Fck With Myself is a confrontation with herself and what drives Banks to be who she is. The music video has eerie and haunting figures dancing around her which match the mood of the song. Gemini Feed and Mind Games, released sometimes ago are also included in the new album.
In 2014 Jillian Rose Banks found resounding success with her first album Goddess. The album reached the Top 20 in the US, UK, Australia, Sweden, Germany and New Zealand. Some of the songs like Goddess and You Should Know Where I’m Coming From featured on popular TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Red Band Society and The Originals.
Banks grew up in California part of an affluent family. She was a lonely and helpless child and music helped to release her emotions. She even did a thesis in college about children of divorce for her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology; consequently dark thoughts are not far away. Her music is her redemption and she expresses her inner self through it.
Banks claims that Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple are her influences. Her raspy, delicate vocals have been compared to Erykah Badu and Feist. She has toured with The Weekndearlier in 2013 and she has been a prominent singer at the Coachella Festival in 2014. Banks has also released two EPs in 2013 – Falling Over and London to great reviews.
